2024/2025

There are 32 pupils in our school. Fiona O’Neill, the Principal, teaches 3rd to 6th Class and Grainne Strumble teaches Junior Infants to 2nd Class. Eimear Kehoe is our Special Education teacher and she is based in our school. Brendan Deehan is our Special Needs Assistant.

We are a committed Green School and we have 13 Green Flags. We are now on our Climate Ambassadors Project.

We complete computer classes in school during the first term. The classes run for 7 weeks and include Scratch Programming.

We take part in Science Blast, BT Young Scientist and the Junior Entrepreneur Programme which we thoroughly enjoy.

We receive Hot School Lunches each day which are provided by Foodies. The pupils get to order what they would like each day (free of charge). This programme is a great addition to our school day.

Jean comes to our school every Tuesday to take the children for PE. The children have lots of fun with her. Alan, our Gaelic coach, comes on a Thursday and we really enjoy this too. Physical activity is an integral part of everyday.

The pupils in our school love music. We learn many songs and we also learn the tin-whistle each week. We take part in many events such as the Clonown Variety show and the Feile Ceoil. We are delighted to be part of the Music Generation programme. We each have our own instrument supplied by Music Generation and we are learning fiddle/mandolin/banjo in school each week with Cian.

We are taking part in the Accelerated Reader programme which has been a huge success in our school. We go to the library throughout the year and the children love this outing. We attend story-telling events at the library during the year also.

We also take part in the IXL online Maths programme. Each pupil has his/her own login which is provided by the school free of charge. The teacher can monitor/track the children’s progress and all our pupils love working on their chrome books to complement our Maths curriculum.

We enjoy trips to the Dean Crowe Theatre, the Luan Gallery, Athlone Castle, Glendeer Pet Farm, Athlone Community Radio, the Viking Boat, Athlone Institute of Technology and Roscommon Arts Centre. We are also taking part in the Science Blast at the RDS for our sixth year in a row and BT Young Scientist for our second year.

We were delighted when we were chosen as a pilot school for the O.K. Kids Anti-Bullying Programme.. The Care Plan fits in perfectly in our school as we all look after one another.

We are immensely proud of our school and of the unique experience we give to the children in our care, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
