We were delighted when our school was awarded the Artist in Schools Programme. This programme is funded by Roscommon Co. Council and involves an artist coming to our school every week for 7 weeks to deliver the programme.
Catherine came today for the afternoon and the children had a brilliant time. Firstly they studied the famous watermelon painting Viva La Vida by Frida Kahlo from 1954. Next the children learned about and practised mixing paint. They then got the opportunity to paint their own watermelon picture after studying actual watermelons which we had in the classroom (see photo above).
We had a great time and are looking forward to next Friday already. Below is a selection of the artwork which I’m sure you’ll agree is very impressive.
