Hedgerow Week 2023

Martin Curley from Heritage in Schools came to school today to help us celebrate National Hedgerow Week. He held a workshop on hedgerows and we discussed what we would find in the top (different species of trees), middle (hedges/shrubs) and bottoms (flowers and grass) of hedgerows. We learned the purpose and importance of hedges for agriculture and biodiversity. We explored our own local area and the hedgerows that we can find there. Finally we designed and drew our own ‘ideal’ hedgerows. Pupils in the Junior Room also took part in a workshop with Martin in the afternoon, specifically tailored for them. Thanks to Martin for a great day and thanks to the Heritage Council for funding this workshop.
