About Our School

There are 28 pupils in our school. Fiona O’Neill, the Principal, teaches 3rd to 6th Class and Lisa Quigley teaches Junior Infants to 2nd Class. Grainne Keane is our Special Education teacher and she is based in our school. Brendan Deehan is our Special Needs Assistant.

We are a committed Green School and we are currently working on our 11th Green School Project. Therefore, we are preparing for our 11th Green Flag.

We’ve just completed computer classes in school during the first term. The classes ran for 7 weeks.

We take part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme which we thoroughly enjoy.

Jean comes to our school every Tuesday to take the children for PE. The children have lots of fun with her. Declan, our soccer coach comes on a Wednesday. Our Gaelic coach, Marie comes on Thursdays. Physical activity is an integral part of everyday.

The pupils in our school love music. We learn many songs and we also learn the tin-whistle each week. We take part in many events such as the Clonown Variety Show and the Feile Ceoil. Recently we went to Retreat Nursing Home to perform for the residents there.

We are taking part in the Accelerated Reader programme which has been a huge success in our school. We go to the library once a month and the children love this outing. We attend story-telling events at the library throughout the year also.

We enjoy trips to the Dean Crowe Theatre, the Luan Gallery, Athlone Castle, Glendeer Pet Farm, Athlone Community Radio, Athlone Institute of Technology, Ericsson and Roscommon Arts Centre. This year we are going to Science Blast in the RDS too.

We were delighted when we were chosen as a pilot school for the O.K. Kids Anti-Bullying Programme.. The Care Plan fits in perfectly in our school as we all look after one another.

We are immensely proud of our school and of the unique experience we give to the children in our care, in a relaxed and friendly environment.
